Nice to meet you, I'm Stephany!
I am a UX designer based in the Bay Area, California. I am a huge believer in designing and creating products with positive social impact.
I have over 6 years of experience in physical product development and a master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Product Development. Throughout my career thus far, I’ve designed everything from hip implants to e-scooters. In my personal time, I’ve designed logos, shirt designs, illustrations, and more for various friends and clients.
Since my entry into UX design, I have enjoyed seeing all the similarities between digital and physical product development. No matter what you’re designing, prioritizing user needs and balancing tradeoffs is essential.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned throughout my career so far is the importance of good communication and collaboration across different teams. I am always thinking about how my decisions impact not only the end-user but my teammates as well.
Why transition from physical to digital product development?
While I love being a part of the product development process from start to finish, I have constantly had a nagging feeling whenever my responsibilities as an engineer took me away from focusing on design. While performing calculations and tolerance analysis, I’d still be thinking about if we’re really solving the right problem for our users. I was touring manufacturing floors, but I really wanted to know more about all the different ways a user might interact with our prototypes.
In March 2021, I decided to take the leap and transition from mechanical engineering to UX design. With my passion for the user experience and personal love of art and design, this transition felt like the next natural progression in my career. While I still have a lot to learn about digital design, I believe that my experience within physical design and engineering will bring a fresh and valuable perspective to the design world.
